Fiona and Secret Relax in a Pedicab in Provincetown

Our family has been traveling to Cape Cod since the 1950’s, when my grandparents began driving from New Jersey to Massachusetts every year for the striped bass fishing. The Cape is a haven for fishermen and artists, like many remote and beautiful seaside locations. Provincetown, located at the furthest extreme of the Cape, at the very end of the peninsula, is one of the most dog friendly towns in the world.

In Provincetown, you will find B & B’s, hotels and cottages where you can stay overnight with your pet, filled water bowls outside almost every business you pass, chatty merchants with dogs biscuits in plenty behind the counter who encourage you into their shops, and restaurants in abundance with canine approved, outdoor seating. Add to that the enchantment of miles of beautiful coastline and hiking trails in picturesque woods trod before you by the likes of American writer Ralph Waldo Emerson, and you’ll feel the gravitational pull that is Old Cape Cod.

Provincetown also boasts one of the most beautiful dog parks we’ve ever seen, with playful artwork poised all around the inside and outside. It’s called the Pilgrim Bark Park and features both gravel and sand terrain, sunny and shady areas, and running water.

P-town as it is sometimes known, hosts so many dog friendly locations that we will review them all in good time. There’s simply too much for one review! Suffice to say, if you want a great pet vacation, off season or on, Provincetown can easily be your go-to location.
