In Search of the Holy Grail of Pet Travel Gastronomy: Outdoor Seating with Heating

Fiona at Hollywood Diner, NYC

Our dogs are not phased by cold weather. Huskies thrive on it. So traveling with them in winter time is always an option. We live just south of New York City and love to traverse the city streets, shop, and eat. It’s a good cure for cabin fever. There are many places which allow you to eat at outdoor seating with your canines in warm weather. But what about when the mercury heads south and it’s too cold to eat outdoors?

EVOLUTION – 120 Spring Street – SoHo – NYC 10012

Pets love Evolution in NYC!

Walking up Spring Street in SoHo is always an adventure. No matter how many times we’ve traversed this avenue, we always find something new. Last time we were in NYC with the pups, we made our way slowly up Spring Street. Fiona and Shelby started picking up the pace and their sled dog genes kicked in. They are generally pretty sedate in the city as there is so much activity every where we go and they are overwhelmed with the many scents and sounds and sights which are so different from our suburban New Jersey home. Fiona and Secret Relax in a Pedicab in Provincetown

The Cape is a haven for fishermen and artists, like many remote and beautiful seaside locations. Provincetown, located at the furthest extreme of the Cape, at the very end of the peninsula, is one of the most dog friendly towns in the world.   [Read more…]

The Doc Shoppe – Red Bank, NJ

Secret (on ottoman) and Fiona makes themselves at home at the Doc Shop.

Fiona and Secret are always kindly invited in to visit the Doc Shoppe in Red Bank. There’s a huge leather ottoman that they make their own and the staff don’t seem to mind…  The layout is wide open with plenty of room for pups to roam while you browse the fine selection of shoes. Rob and I love Doc Marten shoes. They not only look cool but are made to last. I’ve had some of mine for over 15 years. It’s no surprise that they are a pet friendly business! I don’t know about all locations, but the ones in NYC are very pet friendly, too.
